I’ve worn a lot of hats in my career as a creative. I’ve been a warehouse worker, a line cook, a photographer, a camera technician, a photographer again, and then a cashier and student. I don’t really care what I’m doing, so long as it leads back to a life where I can get back to making things with my hands and mind. It truly is a privilege to create as a career.
I’ve spent the first 9 years of that career as a photographer, but after Covid-19 hit I spent a good deal of time reflecting on why I was doing things. I promptly re-enrolled in college, pursuing a degree in graphic design. I saw the work that my art directors did at Macy’s and Ralph Lauren and fell in love with not just the image, but where the images went.
At the end of the day, I’m greedy. I want to be able to do anything in a creative situation as the need arises. I want to be able to communicate with my peers in their language in the collaborative work that is necessary for creative work. Most of all I just want to experience a wider world of experience, and this second discipline is my train ticket.
